Kenya: The Digital Payment Platform of Kenya Ports Authority ‘KARGOPAY’ has won the second place at the 44th edition of the African Association for Public Administration Management (AAPAM) roundtable conference 2025, under the Innovative Management Award Category. The ceremony was held in the Kingdom of Eswatini where KPA defeated dozens of entries from across Africa.
In total 49 submissions were made across Africa and only six finalists showcased their initiatives that geared to transform the public service delivery. Theme for this year’s roundtable conference was ‘Agile Public Administration: Partnership and Digital Transformation for Citizen-Centric Service Delivery’.
The 2025 theme of AAPAM aimed to highlight organisations and individuals by making meaningful strides in efficiency, transparency and accountability within the public administration sector.
The President of AAPAM – Dr. John Nakabago addressed the participants gathered at the conference and acknowledged the important role public administrators that they play in streamlining the public sector service delivery. Also, he encouraged them to embrace the innovation and citizen feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Principal Secretary of the State Department for Cabinet Affairs – Dr. Idris Dokota was also present among the notable high-ranking government officials who joined the KPA team to celebrate the victory.
This prestigious award underscores KPA’s unwavering dedication to innovation as a cornerstone of its port operations efficiency. It also reflects the broader vision of the Authority of building a resilient, efficient and customer focused organisation.
KARGOPAY – the Digital Payment Platform of Kenya Ports Authority was launched in July 2023. It is a user-friendly payment system and one of the key notable innovations by KPA that has created seamless port operational efficiency in streamlining the cargo clearance processes.
44th AAPAM Roundtable Conference was organised in an era of rapid technological advancements by shifting citizen expectations and complex socio-economic challenges, public institutions are increasingly compelled to embrace agility, responsiveness and innovation. The 2025 conference addressed the imperative by exploring how governments and public service entities can leverage the digital tools and foster strategic collaborations to meet contemporary governance challenges.
