Kenya: The Kenya Forest Service has launched the Kirinyaga County Participatory Forest Management Plans. The official event commemorating the launch of the forest Management Palans were hosted on Wednesday.
The aim of the initiative is to make sure that the members of the organization is to make sure that the forest cover remains intact. The forest management plans have been implemented in various parts of the nation, with several Kenya Forest Service pledging their support to the environment conservation efforts.
The leaders of the Kenya Forest Service have shared the glimpses from the event on their social media. Several important officials were present at the launch of the Kirinyaga County Participatory Forest Management Plans.
The aim of the organization is to make sure that the community can increase their participation in the forest preservation services.
The Deputy Chief Conservator of Forest, Natural Forest Conservation Beatrice Mbula accompanied by Head of Legal Services Esther Keige has today presided over the launch of Kirinyaga County Participatory Forest Management Plans in a colorful event sponsored by Rainforest Alliance at Castle Forest, Kirinyaga County.
Speaking during the event, the DCCF emphasized on the importance of Community Forest Associations in the Forests and urged the communities to use the Management Plans as a shopping basket to benefit from the Forest while at the same time preserve it for current and future generations.
She also discouraged the use of firewood which is tiresome, time consuming and has a lot of health complications and instead encouraged them to embrace clean energy which is good for their health.
Kirinyaga County is home to 5 Community Forest Associations namely : Castle, Kangaita, Kathandeini, Njukiini West and Murinduko Hills who were also present. The CFAs are engaged in Bee Keeping, Eco tourism, Fish farming, Tree Nursery management and other activities.
Also present during the event was the Regional Forest Conservator Central Highlands, George Abuto, County Forest Conservator, Kirinyaga, Kenneth Muthuri, Rainforest Alliance Manager, Dida Karani among others.
