Kifli, Kenya: Moving the Goalposts Kenya is all set to host a Webinar on the theme of “Sports that African Women Want” on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM (West African Time). All influential women across Africa will be a part of this Webinar.
The Webinar will be based on acknowledging the role of Women in various sectors of the Nation. This Webinar will provide insights on the “AU Strategy for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment 2018-2028.”
The Executive Director of MTG, Dorcas Amakobe, will host this initiative. During the Session, she will highlight the role of Women and their influence, especially in the sports field.
The Chief guest of the Events are Loubna Belabbes (General of the Royal Moroccan Sports Federation of People with Disabilities), Doracas Amacobe (Executive Director at MTG), Neema Masitha (Executive Officer of Tanzania National Sports Club), Andrea Dirabou (Caption of Ivory Coast Rugby Team), Cora Burnett (Research Professor and Director of Olympic Studies Centre).
The event will be organised with a motto: Move from Gender Policy to Action.
The webinar will share insights on the “AU Strategy for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment 2018-2028” and how the strategy is implemented in sports to create an ecosystem that supports women’s equitable participation in sports.
It will look at evidence from AU Sports Council Region 5 gender research and governmental as well as non-governmental best practices on “Moving from gender policy to practice” – overcoming barriers to gender equality through the use of sports.
“Sports that African Women Want” Webinar will be aimed at recognising the potential of women and ensuring their equal participation and representation in Sports at all levels.
With Director Dorcas, the Webinar will efficiently ensure and highlight women’s potential and strength to work cooperatively in the Sports Field. Over the years, Women have remained the most recognised and successful figures in every field.
The dedicated participation and spirit have led the nation to grow in all spheres. The hosted Webinar would also encourage and ensure that all women are provided equal access to sports-related opportunities.
The webinar highlighted the need for equitable funding in sports, safeguarding women & girls from violence and women striving and taking up opportunities and roles in sports leadership.
