Zimbabwe: A woman and her one-year-old daughter died after getting hit by a Kombi on Jan 15, 2024. The incident occurred at night, and upon investigation, it was found that the Kombi was involved in an accident earlier, too.
The incident took place at the intersection of Chiremba and Delpot Road around 7:00 p.m.
According to the Police report, the Kombi had five passengers on board and collided with another vehicle before hitting the woman and her daughter, who were walking along the road.
The National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner – Paul Nyathi confirmed that the Zimbabwe Republic Police received the report of a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on Jan 15, 2024, around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Chiremba Road and Delpot Road.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said, “The accident involved a woman aged 34 and her baby girl aged 01, who died when a Toyota Hiace Kombi with five passengers on board collided with a Nissan Dualis motor vehicle with no passenger on board.”
The police also mentioned that due to the impact of the accident, the Toyota Hiace Kombi veered off the road and hit the woman who was walking along the road while carrying the baby on the back.
“The victims sustained head injuries and died after he was admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals,” said the Cops.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed a fatal road accident that occurred on Jan 16, 2024, around 10:00 a.m. at the 143 km peg along Harare-Chirundu Road in which a Zupco bus carrying 21 passengers veered off the road before overturning.
In the recently occurred accident, one person died immediately at the incident spot while 10 others were injured severely.
Zimbabwe has recorded many road accidents in the past few weeks, considering which the local residents showed their concern. The citizens are angry with the carelessness of the drivers and the bad conditions of the roads that are the major factors leading to an increase in accidents.
