Korea-Africa Partnership will foster economic growth: President William Ruto

Kenya: President William Ruto on Tuesday inaugurated the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit and highlighted the critical role of Korea with which it can bring transformation in Africa.

The President also expressed that Africa is keen on exploring the robust partnerships with Korean investors to turn Africa’s enormous potential into an opportunity and investment that will create jobs and will foster economic growth.

Ruto also mentioned that Africa’s assets include a dynamic youthful and skilled population. Africa is an abundant arable land with huge renewable energy reserves and with vast variety of mineral resources which are yet needed to be fully exploited.

He said that Africa has identified food security, science and technology, peace and security, and health security as key areas of cooperation with Korea.

Highlighting the importance of the strategic summit the President of Kenya said that this summit demonstrates to resolve and elevate this relationship and mobilise political that will be needed for Africa and Korea to prosper together through mutual collaborations which will be beneficial.

President of Kenya William Ruto said that to do this, they must leverage complementarities and implement win-win strategies based on equal partnership.

The 2024 Korea-Africa Summit took place in Ilsan on Tuesday, June 04, 2024. At the summit, the African Heads of delegations and Heads of Africa-related international organisations participated.

The Summit was organised under the theme of ‘The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability and Solidarity’.

Following this, the 2024 Korea-Africa Business Summit took place on Wednesday, June 05, 2024, in Seoul, where the Heads of State or Government and business leaders of Korea and Africa participated jointly.

The Summit was hosted by President Yoon Suk Yeol at the Korea International Exhibition Centre in Goyang. The slogan or theme of the summit embodies Korea’s commitment for fostering shared growth and enhancing cooperation and solidarity for a sustainable future with Africa through hosting the first summit that roots from Korea’s development experience.

Notably, the emblem for the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit is inspired by the Korean taegeuk colours and pan-African colours. The ribbon graphic symbolises the connection and unity between Korea and Africa that takes the form of the African continent.

Furthermore, the elements symbolize the cultures and nature of Korea and Africa that are encapsulated in patterns, illustrating the process of fostering mutual understanding and solidarity similar to assembling building blocks.
