Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has been commended and recognised for its dedicated efforts to unlock the potential of the multibillion-shilling ‘Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone’ (SEZ) project.
Reportedly, Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the President, Performance and Delivery Management – Eliud Owalo led a government delegation on inspection of BETA projects in Mombasa. There they recognised Kenya Ports Authority for its effective management of the compensation process, mainly for Project Affected Persons (PAPs).
Owalo highlighted the successful implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan Project Affected Persons (PAPS), during the tour of the Mombasa Port Area Road Development and the Dongo Kundu SEZ projects. They stated that the government should remain committed to accelerate the development of flagship projects.
As Deputy Chief, he reaffirmed that the government is keen to fast-track development of the Dongo Kundu SEZ. It will be tracked with hopes of industrial activities to boost manufacturing and export business.
Eliud Owalo was accompanied by PS Gender Ann Mwang’ombe, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and Government Delivery Unit officials among other Government agencies overseeing the implementation of the project.
Considering this, Mboko echoed the similar sentiments and lauded the authority for remaining steadfast in the project implementation.
She attributed the success of the compensation and resettlement plan to full stakeholders’ engagement and the public participation process.
Manager of the Project Development Management – Eng. Kennedy Nyaga spoke on behalf of the Managing Director of Kenya Ports Authority – Capt. William Ruto and reaffirmed the commitment of the authority to finalize the compensation and resettlement plan within the agreed timelines.
The Kenya Ports Authority has recorded 97 requests in total, for land allocation from potential investors with an estimated land requirement of approximately 7,000 acres. Taifa Gas Company, who is already on site, has allocated 30 acres for the development.

The company is operated under the Taifa Gas and Mihan Gas brands and offers LPG cylinders and related services.
