KZN Dept of education hosts 3 day Digital Learning Conference

KZN Department of education Digital Learning Conference being hosted over 3-Days at the Anton Lembede MST Academy in La Mercy.

South Africa: Digital Learning Conference is being hosted over 3-Days at the Anton Lembede MST Academy in La Mercy. The event is being presided over by the Department of Basic Education’s Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule,

The Deputy Minister was accompanying KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer and HoD, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo. The event will be hosted from March 25 to March 27. Day One of the three-day initiative has concluded successfully.

On day one, the MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, welcomed the conference attendees and introduced the Department of Basic Education’s Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule. The Deputy Minister was responsible for delivering the keynote address at the event.

Dr Mhaule officially opened the three-day digital learning conference. The Department of Education has shared some images from Day One of the event. The department also provided a recorded video of the whole event for people to watch from their homes.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule talked about the importance of digital learning in development avenues. She said, “Digital technology promotes the use of innovative technologies, and innovative teaching pedagogies in education, preparing learners for future technological advancements.”

The Member of the Executive Council for Education in Kwazulu Natal also delivered a brief address at the event. She said that the Department of Education has successfully expedited the implementation of interventions to bridge the digital and educational divides.

The MEC noted that the divides were intentionally created by the apartheid regime. The success of the initiative can be credited to the support from the government of South Africa. Further, the support of the stakeholders has also played an important role.

She assured the conference delegates that the governments‘ commitment to dismantling barriers, both digital and educational, remains steadfast.

“Going forward, we are planning not only to increase learner enrolment in mathematics, sciences, and technological subjects but our task also includes ensuring that our schools and educators are adequately capacitated in terms of both skills and resources to prepare our youth for the economy of tomorrow,” said MEC Frazer
