KwaZulu Natal: The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, officially introduced a building contractor for an upgrade soon to be the State-of-the-art Historical Institution of Ohlanga High School, Pinetown District.

The construction project of Ohlanga High School will cost the Department R 127,8 million, the construction is scheduled to run over a period of 10 months. The project will provide job creation, and priority will be given to local sub-contractors owned by women, youth, disabled persons, military veterans and LGBTQ.

The scope of work is extensive. It includes a new mechanical workshop, a multi-purpose classroom, a computer room, a team-teaching area, and new ablution facilities for both boys and girls. We will also construct new double-story classrooms and conduct repairs on all existing classrooms.

Additionally, the admin block will undergo extensive repairs and additions, perimeter fencing will be installed, and new parking bays, an assembly area, and a combi court will be created.

MEC Mbali Frazer announced that during the budget speech in April 2023, she declared that the Department would be prioritizing the renovation and upgrades of Ohlange High School in the 2023/24 financial year.

“We are here to fulfil that commitment” She further stated that the construction of the new state-of-the-art Ohlange High School site establishment has already commenced and want to see this project completed by 31 October 2025.”

On Sunday, February 11, 2024, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu was joined by the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for a monitoring exercise at some educational institutions in Bepoase and Agona.

At Bepoase, they had a discussion on feasibility studies for the establishment of a Senior High School in the town. They also inspected the infrastructure at Bepoase SDA Primary/JHS, where a request was made to the Minister for the construction of a modern classroom block for the school.

Later in the day, we had an interaction with the principal, students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff of Agona Technical Institute. The Education Minister promised the institute desks, reading materials, a school vehicle, and the completion of some projects in the school. He also prioritized the construction of a fence wall to safeguard the students and staff.
