KwaZulu Natal, Durban: The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has lauded the people of KwaZulu-Natal for coming out in numbers to celebrate the only four-time Rugby World Cup Champions of the world, the Springboks as they paraded the coveted Webb Ellis Cup Trophy in Durban yesterday.

The Trophy celebration meandered through the streets of eThekwini, in uMhlanga, KwaMashu Township, Dumisani Makhaye road, culminating in a final stop on the steps of the Durban City Hall, to thunderous ululations and jubilations.

“The people of KwaZulu-Natal, together in their diversity, demonstrated that we are united; we are stronger together. Our people made us a proud Province and a happy Nation. We thank each and everyone who lined up the streets to demonstrate our united voice,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.

Thousands of people lined the streets from the early hours of the morning on Saturday, 4 November, hoping to get a glimpse of the Springboks.

“Siyamthanda Kolisi and the team have reignited a fire among our people to work harder together and soar to greater heights. They have won more than the Webb Ellis Cup but have granted South Africa the rare gift to press the reset button and refocus all of us on what matters the most – that of being proud, patriotic and united South Africans. Through their exploits, they have reminded us that indeed we are stronger together, and we can achieve anything we set our minds to,” added the Premier.

The Springboks received a memorable welcome to Durban KwaZulu-Natal with euphoria and elation.

The Premier said that the Springboks have rekindled in all of us the dream of a free, non-racial and prosperous South Africa.

“The Springbok’s historic win at the Rugby World Cup was more than just an extraordinary and inspiring national achievement, but it has inspired a seed of hope for youngsters from all walks of life”, concluded Premier Dube-Ncube.
