Fake Pilot Scams Women: Kwazulu Natal – South Africa

South Africa: Four (4) women from different towns in KwaZulu Natal have contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) over the past week, reporting a man identifying himself as a Pilot that had scammed them of thousands of Rands.

South Africa: Four (4) women from different towns in Kwazulu Natal have contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) over the past week, reporting a man identifying himself as a Pilot that had scammed them of thousands of Rands.

The man introduced himself as Ravi Kumar, a single Airline Pilot residing in Los Angeles – California, in the USA. He sends Friend requests to women on Facebook and asks for a contact number during a chat on Facebook Messenger.

The women are then contacted on WhatsApp using the number +39 3510164225. The prefix +39 is the International Dialing Code for Italy in Europe.

After chatting with the victims for a few weeks, the man requests home addresses so he can send gifts. The women were sent images (picture 2) of a box that contained 15 000 US Dollars (R300 000).

The scammer then professes his love and promises to visit South Africa and marry the victims. Later he requested R5000 daily on each occasion, explaining that the box packed with gifts and cash was being withheld at Customs, he was stuck at the airport, or his bank cards were lost.

The women were collectively scammed out of R97 000. He sent a fake loveable and chanting message in order to trap her in which he wrote: “Hello my beautiful angel, how was your weekend? I hope you are fine and had a lovely time with your family, I have a surprise for you today. I have bought you a gift as a surprise for you I want to show you that I truly care about you (With some loveable emojis).

Later, he demanded the address and her full name by writing, “Please send me your full name and address and phone number to enable me to post it to you. I really can’t wait to show you my surprise. I love you so much.
