Malawi: President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of new Mpatsa Primary School. The new primary school will be constructed in thee Nsanje District and provide education to several students.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the school was hosted on Wednesday with President Chakwera and several other government officials.  Chakwera said he donated seed money for the commencement of the construction of the school.

He made the donation after learning about the devastation caused by the effects of Cyclone Freddy in the community. The officials have shared that the president was delighted to be a part of the  groundbreaking ceremony

“I am grateful to all stakeholders who have come to support the construction of the school. Let us all work together for the betterment of this school and children in this area,” he added.

President Lazarus Chakwera said he is aware that a number of schools were affected by the cyclone in the district. As such he assured of his government support towards the affected schools.

He said he is also aware that climate change and change in the course of Shire River have heavily affected the people of Nsanje.

The Malawian leader has assured people in the lower Shire and Nsanje District of his government commitment towards various development projects in the country.

“My government is promoting durable and strong infrastructure development,” said the President.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia said people in the two districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje appreciate President Chakwera’s tireless efforts in uplifting the lives of Malawians.

Earlier, Member of Parliament for Nsanje Central, Kafandikhale Mandevana appealed to the government to assist other primary schools. He recalled that there were several schools which were  affected by the cyclone in his constituency.

“Nyamithuthu, Chilumba and Phanga primary schools were also affected by the cyclone and we need your assistance,” Mandevana said.

The Member of Parliament also appreciated President Chakwera for initiating various development programmes in the area.

Director of Youth for the Malawi Congress Party, Steve Malondera praised Chakwera for various developments adding that the resumption of railway transportation will create new economic opportunities for the youth.

Senior Chief Tengani hailed the president for mobilizing resources to construct the new school. “I am glad that you came in person to witness the devastation that happened at the school,” he said.

Chief Tengani assured the president that he will personally supervise the construction works. This will serve as one way of ensuring adherence to quality and standards at the construction site.
