Malawi: President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is commemorating the 2024 edition of Labour Day with the rest of the nation. The event will be hosted on Wednesday morning starting at 10:30 hours. The event is being hosted at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre and is open for people of Malawi to attend.
The 2024 edition of the world labour day is being celebrated under the theme, “Investing in Social Protection to Achieve Decent Work for All”. The government of Malawi has been pushing efforts to protect the rights of the workers of the country.
The officials have shared that the government understands the significant role played by the workers in the development of the nation. The organizers were delighted to note that the President of the country, Lazarus Chakwera is also in attendance.
The presence of the President denotes that the government considers workers as an integral part of the country’s socio-economic development. The President of the country is delighted with the commemoration of the event in Malawi.
Internationally, the event serves as an opportunity to honor and appreciate the workers for their dedication and hardwork. Their role in nation building and development of the various sectors of the country are highlighted during the event.
Ahead of the 2024 edition of the Labour Day Celebration, government has once again increased efforts to promote decent work for people. The administration is working hard to provide comprehensive support to ensure the improvement of the stability and welfare of workers.
The government has announced the provision of safety nets as well as the revision and improvement of labour standards and workers’ rights. Through the initiative, they want to provide secure and decent work for all.
President Chakwera has constantly been an advocate for the welfare of workers in Malawi. He is dedicated towards the creation of a fair and decent work environment in line with Malawi 2063.
The president’s vision also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.
Recently government has increased salaries for civil servants, revised the minimum wage and tax-free band and other frameworks to protect workers from shocks as it bolsters efforts to create decent work for all.
