Zambia: Lightning in the Nalolo District in Western Province has claimed the life of a 11-year-old girl from Muoyo area. The district administration claimed that the lightning incident took place after a heavy downpour in the region.

The officials have claimed that this is the second time that a lightning strike has killed a student in the area. The parents of the victim are devastated and grieving the loss of their daughter

Nalolo District Education Board Secretary Likezo Wamunyima shared the details of the incident through a short media statement. The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday at around 16:00 hours during a heavy downpour.

District Education Board Secretary Wamunyima identified the young girl as Mbololwa Meamui. The youngster was in grade six at Muoyo Primary School and the daughter of one of the teachers employed there.

According to the official, the lightning strike happened when the victim was at his home. The official shared that the incident killed the victim on the spot.

“This is causing fear among our teachers because it is the second time lightning has struck a pupil,” He mentioned.

The Nalolo District Education Board Secretary, Likezo Wamunyima, expressed his sadness that young lives are being lost in such a tragic manner.

“I am unsure if our schools are located in a thunder-prone zone, but we are saddened by the loss of pupils at such a tender age,” he added.

Officer Wamunyima extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, school and district, praying for God’s blessings during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Nalolo District Commissioner Namatama Mupo also described the incident as a sorrowful development.

Mupo conveyed her condolences to the family and wished them strength through this challenging period.

“We mourn with the family and pray for God to provide them with strength,” she said.

The people of the district have also extended their condolences to the family, praying that they have the strength to face the loss.
