Limpopo Department of Sport finalised verification process for Athletes

Africa: In preparation for the National School Sport Championships, the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Department of Education finalised the verification process, which included Athletes, Team Managers, Coaches, Tournament Director and Compliance Officers at Department Archives Building over the weekend 25-26 June 2022. A committed team braved the cold weather to ensure the process ran smoothly.

The verification process also assists in granting eligibility to the learner athletes to verify that all learners selected to participate in the national championships have undergone the process of participating in the district and provincial championships.

This process also grants consent or permission from athletes’ parents or guardians to participate in the National Championships.

They respectively are destined to activate the following sporting codes; chess, volleyball, netball, football, rugby, tennis, kho-kho, hockey and juskei.

The dates for the Western Cape edition of the Winter Championship are scheduled for the 3rd – 7th July 2022, with participation days being the 4th – 6th July 2022.

Western Cape is to host 1269 athletes participating in chess, volleyball, and netball spread across three venues within Cape Town (i.e.) Chess: Western Cape Sports School hall (Kuilsriver), Volleyball: Belhar Indoor Complex (Belhar), Netball: Stellenbosch University Coetsenburg Hall (Stellenbosch University).

Whilst Gauteng is scheduled to host 2615 athletes stemming from all provinces from the 11 to the 16 July 2022 spread across Ekhurhuleni (i.e.) Benoni & Kempton Park at the following venues:

• Benoni High School – Hockey
• Hoörskool Hans Moore – Rugby

• Benoni Northern B – Kho-Kho
• Gauteng East Tennis – Tennis
• Northmead – Tennis
• Benoni Northers – Football U15 and U17

In addition to the talent identification opportunities that the National Championships has made available, the winning schools (boys and girls teams) in the football U-15 category will have an opportunity to represent South Africa in the regional phase of the CAF Africa School Championship Cup (ASCC) in September – October 2022.
