South Africa, Limpopo: The Limpopo School Sports teams went to Benoni in Gauteng to participate in the National School Sports Championships from July 4th to July 6th, 2023.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DoE), sent 436 Athletes, Coaches, Managers, General Team Management, and Support Staff.
Both Departments are optimistic that the team will effectively represent the Province and bring home medals. With an unwavering winning spirit and remarkable resilience, they have already begun to showcase their exceptional skills on the field.
On Day 2 of the National Schools Sports Championships underway in Benoni, Gauteng and Team Limpopo are showcasing their full potential on the field of play.
Adorned with Provincial Colours, they proudly raised the Limpopo flag with pride and dignity. The team competes in various sports, including football, wheelchair tennis, Tennis, hockey, volleyball, chess, Kho-Kho, netball, and rugby.
Team Limpopo is demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence. With each game, they embody the spirit of sportsmanship and showcase their exceptional skills.
And their hard work paid off as team Limpopo performed exceptionally well at the National School Sports Winter Games Championships, securing impressive achievements. They claimed the top spot and won a gold medal in the Khokho Boys category while securing the second position and a silver medal in the Khokho Girls category.
Additionally, they achieved a silver medal in Girls’ U/15 Football, a bronze medal in Wheelchair Tennis, and had the honour of having 12 athletes selected to join the Volleyball National squad.
Throughout the challenging competition, which lasted from July 3rd until today, Team Limpopo demonstrated remarkable talent and showcased their exceptional capabilities on the field.
Their outstanding performance was a testament to their dedication and hard work.
Team Limpopo ranked 6th in performance out of the nine provinces, narrowly missing the top 5 spots. Deputy Minister Mafu announced this during the closing ceremony held at Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton.
The team has shown significant improvement compared to last year’s performance, and their unwavering passion and dedication have finally paid off. The team is determined to strive for a resounding victory next year.
