Mauritius: The Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad met with the Deputy Chief Commissioner (DCC) of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, Johnson Roussety. The meeting was hosted in the afternoon hours of Thursday in the Minister’s office.
The Minister of education, who has been sworn into his role less than two months, has been working with stakeholders. He has hosted several meetings with the aim of understanding the educational framework of the nation.
The Minister wants to understand the needs of the students who define the future of the nation. The administration has shared that they want to become mindful of the expectations of the students.
This will help them in coming up with the appropriate changes and reforms that are need in the education sector. The Minister of education has since received important documents relating to the educator sector in Rodrigues.
The handover was made by Roussety, Deputy Chief Commissioner (DCC) of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. After the conclusion of the meeting, he issued a statement in the media where the Minister has said that his team is dedicated to fostering the successful development of students in Rodrigues at the pre-primary, primary and secondary levels.
Minister Mahend Gungapersad accordingly noted that it is important to be aware about the specificities and needs of students. This will help them in coming up with effective policies for students in Rodrigues.
Deputy Chief Commissioner (DCC) of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, Roussety indicated that his meeting with Minister Gungapersad was prloductive. He was welcomed into the office warmly. It is also to be noted that they are discussing several matters regarding the education sector of Mauritius
He said that he was satisfied with the removal of the criteria of having a Post Graduate Certificate in Education for teaching in secondary schools.
The need for pre-primary teachers in Rodrigues to benefit from same terms and conditions as pre-primary teachers of the Early Childhood Care and Education, as well as future reforms concerning the Extended Programme, were also on the agenda.
