Malawi: Malawi Kickboxing Association (MAKBA) has announced the 2024 National Kick-boxing Championship. The event will be hosted on November 3, 2024 and will start at 10 AM at China Complex in Zomba District.
The kickboxing event is hosted every year and features several notable kickboxing athletes. The Secretary General for MAKBA, Bright Limani shared the details of the event. He confirmed that the organization has already started their preparation to host the event.
The national Kickboxing event scheduled for Sunday will help in selecting national team athletes from Malawi. These players will represent the nation at the African Kick-boxing Champions which is scheduled for December 2024 in South Africa.
The secretary general confirmed that the winners of the national event will be included in the team leaving for South Africa in December. The kickboxing competition will be contested by 11 clubs from different parts of the country.
The fight between Yamikani Matembeka and Yohane Edward will be the main event of the kickboxing championship. The athletes will be trying to win the heavy weight belt.
A kick-boxer, Jimmy Katsoka has confirmed that he will be participating in the event. He comes from Ndirande Township in Blantyre. The athlete informed the media that his preparation is at an advanced stage.
“I want to confirm that I will take part, my preparation so far is good and I want to teach these young ones how to do kick-boxing on the day. What I want is to do better so that I can be one of those to be included in the national team which will participate in South Africa this December,” he said.
Katsoka called upon the lovers of this sport to come with their families to watch the kick-boxing on the day and give them support.
In 2022, Malawi kick-boxing team participated in the African Kick-boxing Champions in South Africa. At the time, the team returned to malawi with seven medals that they had won at the event. 55 kick-boxing athletes are expected to participate in the National Kickboxing Championship in Malawi. Out of all the participants, one kickboxer is female.
Malawi National Council of Sports has invested K2.5 million into the preparation for the 2024 National Kick-boxing competition.
