Malawi: The Police officers at Makokola in Mangochi District arrested Mussah Namakwera for assault of a bar employee. The victim has been identified as Lucius Nyozani Goliath, who was a customer at the bar where the suspect had gone for leisure.

The suspect, Mussah Namakwera is a resident of the Mbamba Village, Traditional Authority Mulumbe in Zomba district.

The incident of assault happened over a disputed pool token at Makawa Trading Centre on Sunday. The police officials have shared that the arrest was made on Monday after the incident was reported

The Mangochi Police Station, Public Relations Officer, Inspector Amina Daudi talked to the media about the reported assault incident. She gave the media professionals some details about the fight.

According to the police publicist, Nyozani went to the bar for leisure and found the suspect busy serving other customers. The victim had paid the bar employees to get a pool table token, however, he reported that he did not receive it.

The officials said that this miscommunication started a dispute between Nyozani and Namakwera. Notably, the victim, Nyozani requested a refund of his money to be given back his money for the pool table token. He claimed that he was not given the token by the Bar owner.

The police publicist said other customers who were in the bar during the time tried to convince Nyozani that he had already received his token. But their efforts failed to convince him.

“Fight erupted between the two and in the heat of the fight, Namakwera took a metal object and assaulted Nyozani several times in the head causing cuts. He became unconscious due to excessive loss of blood,”

“The matter was reported to Makokola Police Unit whilst the victim was rushed to Koche Community Hospital where he was referred to Mangochi District Hospital before being further referred to Zomba Central Hospital due to his critical condition,” Daudi said.

Meanwhile the suspect is expected to appear in court to answer charges of unlawful wounding.
