Mauritius: Marie Rita Sylvio is the newest centenarian of Mauritius. The elder was born on 08 August 1924 at St Paul. She has recently celebrated her 100th birthday, on Saturday 10 August 2024, in Quatre Bornes.
During the celebration, the newest centenarian of Mauritius was accompanied by her family members.
The celebration of the 100 year birthday of Rita Sylvio was also commemorated by the government of Mauritius. The officials have shared that it is important to honor and respect the elders of the country.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Kavydass Ramano. The Mayor of the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes, Dooshiant Ramluckhun was also one of the guests at the birthday celebration.
Finally, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Marie Alexandra Tania Diolle, joined the celebration.
The dignitaries gave various gifts to the new Centenarian. She received from the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203. The guests also gave her a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal along with a certificate and an Air Fryer.
A present was offered by the Senior Citizens Council as well as a cash gift of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund. She also received a Special Telephone Service from the Mauritius Telecom.

Sylvio’s father was a carpenter and her mother was a teacher at St Paul School. She had four brothers and two sisters. Marie Rita Sylvio never went to school, and was working as maid until she got married to Louis Raynold Sylvio at the age of 24 years.
Her husband was a carpenter at General Construction Ltd until his retirement. Eight children, two sons and six daughters, were born out of their union.
Her husband passed away at the age of 62, after which, she was taken care of by her daughter and moved to Belle Rose. Marie Rita Sylvio has 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
The Centenarian attributes her longevity due to her faith in God and her disciplined and healthy lifestyle.
