Newest Centenarian of Mauritius Anne Chong Hawkins celebrated

Anne Chong Hawkins will soon become the newest Centenarian of Mauritius who was born on 10 May 1924 and celebrated her birthday on Sunday

Mauritius: Anne Marie Jeanne Chong Hawkins will soon become the newest Centenarian of Mauritius. The newest centenarian was born on 10 May 1924 and celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday.

The family and loved ones of Chong were present at the celebration alongside the woman of the hour at Villa Caroline in Flic en Flac. The government and administrative officials of the country were also present at the event to celebrate the special occasion.

Some of the most important members of the government who attended the event included ministry officials and Municipal council representatives. The Mayor of the Municipal Council of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, Rajeneedavee Mootoo-Caroopen attended the celebration.

The government of Mauritius makes diligent efforts to make the day special for the centenarian community. Some members of the Mauritian Administration are a part of the celebration and honor the elderly populations.

The administration also shared some images from the event on the social media account and made the other members of the community part of the celebration.

Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered Chong Hawkins, a cheque of Rs 26,203. The Ministry also gifted the newest centenarian a Rinnai gas cooker; a bouquet of flower; the centenarian medal; and a certificate.

The National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry gave her a cheque of Rs 10,000. Gifts were also presented to her by the Senior Citizen Council. The woman of the hour was given the opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the special day with the people she loved and valued.

Chong Hawkins, was born at Desforges St, Port-Louis in 1924. She got civilly married in August 1945 to Pierre Chong Hawkins who was a shop owner. She was a housewife and has two sons and four daughters.

She lives with her children at Belle Etoile and is taken care of by them.

She likes to eat chicken soup and watch television. She is in good health, wears glasses, and moves around with a stick. Chong Hawkins attributes her longevity to her faith in God and her healthy lifestyle.
