Mauritius: World Hindi Secretariat is serving as the venue for a two-day workshop to commemorate the 2024 edition of the Hindi Diwas. The theme for the workshop is ‘Hindi Drama: Acting and Singing’ and was attended by Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Avinash Teeluck.
World Hindi Secretariat is organizing the event starting on Thursday. The event is being implemented with the support of several notable partners. Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Avinash Teeluck delivered the keynote address at the event.
The Minister talked about the significance of promoting the Hindi language in the nation. He highlighted the language was important for the culture and roots of Mauritius.
He noted that Hindi plays an important role in various fields, including music, theatre, and cinema. He also reminded the people of the language’s economic and historical relevance for the people of the nation.
The Minister claimed that Hindi connects countries and contributes to the economy not only in India but also across Asia and Africa. He was proud of the efforts in the efforts made by the institutions in Mauritius to teach Hindi, from primary schools to universities.
Further in his address, he and underscored the need for increased local initiatives to elevate the language’s status.
The minister said that it is important for the nation to value Hindi as a vital cultural asset. He also thanked all participants and contributors to their help in promoting the language.
He said that several organisations, including the Hindi Speaking Union and the WHS are playing an important role in fostering the language’s growth.
Minister Teeluck said they need collective efforts to enhance the visibility and fluency of Hindi among students. He also stressed that it goes beyond religious and cultural boundaries. He said that people should be proud of the language.
He also insisted that the community must ensuring that hindi is not only spoken but also celebrated as part of Mauritius’s cultural heritage.
Hindi Diwas is observed on September 14 and marks the anniversary of Hindi’s recognition as an official language. The day seeks to honour the language’s contribution to national unity and identity through various literary and cultural events.
The event was hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology. Other partners include:
