Mauritius: Gangabye Tannajee who was born under the name of Sonea celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday. The event was hosted at the Dagotière Multipurpose Complex on behalf of the government of Mauritius.
The newest centenarian elder of the island nation celebrated her birthday with her family members and friends. The Prime Minister of surrounded by family members and friends. The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was the special guest for the centenarian celebrations.
The Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity hosted a ceremony on this occasion. The government honoured the 100 year old with several gifts, including a cheque amounting Rs 26,203 and Rs 10,000 from National Solidarity Fund.
The other gifts that the centenarian received from the guests included a microwave oven, a bouquet a centenarian medal. The Senior Citizens Council of Mauritius also gave Gangabye a gift in kind along with a telephone connection courtesy of the Mauritius Telecom.
The officials also gave her a certificate to commemorate the 100th birthday of the elder The prime Minister of Mauritius extended his best wishes to the elder and appreciated the family.
He acknowledged that the family had taken very good care of the elder as they had supported her thoroughly to lead a happy, long and fulfilled life. The Prime Minister also promised that the government will continue to support them in taking care of the elderly.
The Prime Minister announced that his government is working hard to ensure that elders of Mauritius enjoy a good standard of living. The Prime Minister also confirmed that his government is providing many facilities and services in healthcare to ensure a good life for the elders of Mauritius.
The celebration was also attended by several ministers and leaders of the nation. The list of the guests includes:

- The Chairperson of the District Council of Moka, Sudhirchandra Mahesh Kumar Soonarane
- The Chairperson of the Senior Citizens Council, Hanslall Seebaruth.
