Mauritius: The winners of the Hackathon 2023 were rewarded yesterday during an award ceremony at the Financial Services Commission (FSC) House in Ebène.

The winner (Team Evil Corp), first runner-up (Team Codewars VI) and second runner-up (Team Blackpearl) received cash prizes of Rs 150 000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 75,000, respectively.

The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, and other personalities attended the award ceremony.

In his address, Minister Seeruttun congratulated the winners and lauded the efforts and perseverance of all participants for competing for 24 hours non-stop. The Hackathon Competition, he highlighted, was designed to encourage innovation and creativity in the industry and brought together some of the brightest minds in the financial services industry, especially in the Fintech area.

The competition, he pointed out, offered a great opportunity for youngsters to showcase their skills and meet other professionals in the industry. He thus urged the youth to continue innovating in technology and seize opportunities offered to them to promote talent growth in the International Financial Centre.

Speaking about the second edition of the Financial Services Career Fair, organised on 23 and 24 June 2023, the Minister indicated that it offered education guidance and career opportunities within the financial services industry.

The Fair, he added, also showcased the diversity of the financial services industry, including global businesses, management companies, banks, insurance companies, auditing and accounting firms, legal firms, credit finance, universities, and training institutions.

Furthermore, the Financial Services Minister underlined that extensive efforts are being made to educate and encourage citizens, including professionals and students, to explore the job opportunities available within the Financial Services Sector.

It is recalled that Hackathon 2023, organised by the FFSC, the Financial Services Fund and other stakeholders, is a closed-door, non-stop 24-hour competition aiming to promote creative, innovative apps and financial literacy, in line with the growing importance of financial technology (fintech) and its integration in the financial services sector.

The competition was held on Friday, 23 June 2023, and was opened to all developers, designers and tech enthusiasts and saw the participation of 21 teams of 4 members.
