Cape Town: The Capetonians are ready for the annual Festive Light Switch On event, to be observed in Langa and Mitchells Plain in Dec 2025. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis will officially switch on the festive lights at the special open-air celebrations. The event will be observed in Langa on Dec 02, 2025 and in Mitchells Plain on Dec 05, 2025.
At Langa, which is one of the Cape Town’s oldest neighbourhoods, will usher in the festive season with a festive lights switch-on event along King Langalibalele Drive and Church Street on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
At Mitchells Plain, which is commemorating the 50th anniversary next year, will also celebrate the return of the Festive Lights Switch On event on Friday, Dec 05, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
It was first held in 2006 in Mitchells Plain and is returning after 10-year of hiatus and will take place on Morgenster Road, in front of the Westridge Garden between De Duin Avenue and Victory Drive.
Reportedly, both the events will feature talented Cape Town artists, local entertainers and food stalls as part of family-focused open-air celebrations.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that he is excited to join the Langa and Mitchells Plain communities for upcoming festive light switch on celebrations. For him it is a special year as they expand the joy of these events beyond the main CBD of the City of Cape Town to bring the festive cheer right to the heart of the Mitchells Plain and Langa communities.
Lewis urged all Capetonians to bring their family members, friends along for such joyous open-air events to ring in the festive season in the City of Hope. The Langa and Mitchells Plain festive light installations will be energy saving, with the main CBD lights.
Furthermore, the energy efficient bulbs of 1 watt will ensure far less consumption as compared to a normal incandescent lamp of 60/15 watts.
