Cape Town: The popular Mayor’s Craft Market is back after a long break. It will be making its return to the Cape Town Civic Centre next week, from Wednesday, Nov 27, 2024 till Friday, Nov 29, 2024.
The locally handmade and pre-packaged goods are the major attractions that will be available for sale on the concourse level of the Cape Town Civic Centre.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services – Alderman Theresa Uys said that the market is a part of the Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme by the Mayor.
Uys added that it offers registered vendors a free opportunity to sell their goods to City of Cape Town staff as well as to the public visiting the Civic Centre. However, the market has a great impact on local livelihoods, since its first run that was observed in September 2010, and has remained profound.
Mayor of the City of Cape Town – Geordin Hill-Lewis also stated that many participating crafters, especially the ones who are from disadvantaged communities have relied on market as a significant source of income to support their families and build small businesses.
He highlighted that the staff members also value the opportunity to connect with and support local artisans. According to him, the support over the years has been greatly appreciated and they will continue to support the local traders.
Furthermore, the Mayor’s Craft Market is a powerful platform which is aligned with the city’s vision of ‘A City of Hope for All’ by promoting economic opportunity and social cohesion.
More than forty traders will display and sell their goods over the three-day market.
The Mayor’s Craft Market will be observed at Cape Town Civic Centre, which is a building on the Foreshore in central Cape Town, South Africa that serves as the headquarters of the City of Cape Town.
Notably, City of Cape Town is the municipality that governs Cape Town and its suburbs.
