Zambia: A juvenile aged between 13 and 15 has reportedly been raped by a man in his 40’s. The suspect has been identified by his first name, Chris. The reports suggest that the suspect was a Watchman in Mazabuka’s Itebe Ward.
The identity of the minor has been kept under wraps for some safety reasons. The father of the minor involved in the incident reported the happening. He shared that the incident occurred on 14th January, 2024. The father has also claimed that the suspect has allegedly agreed to commit the crime.
The minor’s father explains that on the fateful night, his daughter had gone to watch a dance group which was performing in the vicinity. The victim was allegedly unaccompanied by her parents.
It is believed that the suspect took advantage of the situation and forced himself on the juvenile at a nearby dam. As per a witness of the incident, the assailant was found holding the victim’s clothes by an individual who got wind of the situation.
The victim’s father, however, notes that a medical statement was not issued after visiting a Health facility. The reason for the lack of a medical statement was that the case was reported three days after the incident. The delay in reporting led to distortion of the evidence.
Notably, the samples needed for the medical statement in the case of assault and rape are viable only for the first forty-eight (48) hours of the incident.
The father of the victim is, however, not deterred by the setback in the course of his actions. He vowed to seek justice in the matter. He claimed that he would talk to both the Police and the Department of Social Welfare.
The people of the country have extended their support to the father for his struggle to get justice for his daughter. The people have called the suspect a fool and called him out on raping the minor girl
