Malawi: Police force in Mchinji have arrested 11 men who were suspects in two murders. The group of eleven individuals allegedly killed their relative and robbed his motorcycle at Kabuthu Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mabvwere in Mchinji.
The incident allegedly happened on May 27, 2025 and was reported to the Mchinji Police Station on the same day. The Public Relations Officer for the Police, Limbani Mpinganjira, confirmed the development.
He reported that the reports were made by the people of the village. The witnesses said that they were familiar with the victims and that the two victims had been subjected to mob justice.
Prior to their death, the two deceased, who have been identified as Chikuwa and Joseph, ambushed Amon Lyson, at Kabuthu. At the time when the boy was ambushed by the now deceased pair, he was going home from Namitete.
The now deceased pair allegedly killed Amon Lyson and after the death of the 52 year old, family members and villagers rallied against the culprits. The villagers and family members heavily assaulted these suspects. The suspects are currently in police custody.
They are expected to appear before court where they will answer a murder charge according to the PR Officer Mpinganjira.
Fuethermore the police officers have made several arrests in connection with the murders. The arrested individuals who have been arrested are:
• Dickson Yohane who is 43 years old
• Yohane Kandiyano who is 42.
• Hamilton Lyson aged 41
• Simukanako Konikisi aged 38
• Chisomo Fyson 33
• Precious Josiya 27
• Piason Kosimasi 23
• Daikon Paul 23
• Levison Joseph 22
• Jimmy Chimphangu aged 21
• Kelvin Chimphangu 18.
All these arrests have been made in connection to the same case.
Meanwhile, police have also urged the members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their hands. The officers have been witnessing mob justice has become a violation of the right to life and to a fair trial.
