South Africa: The MEC for Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba, will today, 13 April 2023, visit Umjindi Early Childhood Development Center at 08H30.
The visit is part of the ongoing visits for the MEC to take stock of progress made, challenges as well as milestones recorded following the function shift of the sector from the Department of Social Development to the Department of Basic Education.
Umjindi ECD Centre was established in 2017. After consultations with the community, it was discovered that there was a shortage of ECD centres to care for the needs of the children in the community.
The centre provides quality Edu-care programmes to 130 children between 1 – 4 years of age. After the visit to Umjindi Early Childhood Development Centre, the MEC will proceed to Barberton Town Hall to address Grade 12th learners from Umjindi Circuit.
This forms part of the MEC’s on going Provincial roadshow aimed at motivating the Class of 2023. Barberton Circuit obtained a 61.8% pass rate following the announcement of the 2022 Grade 12th National Senior Certificate Examination Results, which is below the Provincial average of 76.8%.
Moreover, on the same day (today), the Minister of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), Mr Gwede Mantashe (MP), hosted a School Outreach Programme at Impilo Primary School and a Career Expo at Kriel High School in Emalahleni Local Municipality this morning.
The DMRE School Outreach Programme and Career Expo were intended to motivate teaching and learning, inspire learners to stay in school and provide the required assistance that will enable learners to access quality education.
In addition, the Career Expo Programme assisted learners in acquiring the necessary information that would assist them in making the right career choices for the future, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career paths. They also mentioned that in their campaign, no one will be left behind.
