Mauritius: Dr Belén Garijo, Chair of the Executive Board and C.E.O. of Merck, and Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, the C.E.O. of Merck Foundation, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, PRITHVIRAJSING ROOPUN G.C.S.K.
The visit centered on the longstanding and valuable partnership between Merck Foundation and the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Mauritius.
Senator Dr Rasha Kelej took the opportunity to highlight the substantial contributions Merck Foundation has made to the medical community in Mauritius. She revealed that the foundation has provided scholarships to over 73 Mauritian doctors, spanning more than 39 critical and underserved medical specialities.
These scholarships offer one-year online Diplomas and two-year online Master’s Degrees from renowned U.K. universities.
The fields of study covered by these scholarships are diverse and crucial, including Oncology Research, Cancer and Clinical Oncology, Sexual and Reproductive Medicine, Fertility, Embryology, Biotechnology of Human Assisted Reproduction, Diabetes, Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine, Gastroenterology, Neuroimaging for Research, Clinical Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases, among others.
“We will be offering more training in specific fields where Mauritius needs more specialists, such as oncology, mental health, Pediatric Emergency Care and Sexual and Reproductive Medicine and Fertility,” they emphasized. The commitment to addressing the specific healthcare needs of Mauritius showcases Merck Foundation’s dedication to making a lasting impact on the country’s medical landscape.
