Cape Town: Firefighters from Mfuleni made midwifery hat-trick. The servicemen helped in delivery of a healthy baby boy on Friday, Jan 17, 2025, since the last delivery observed on December 2024.
Reportedly, the Mfuleni firefighters were set in motion and recorded a number of fire station deliveries for December, when two of their staff members helped deliver a baby boy on Dec 01, 2024.
As per the sources, before this, two other firefighters at the station helped in delivering a healthy baby girl on Dec 12, 2024. Also, an expectant mother to be arrived at Mfuleni Fire Station at 01:35 p.m. on Friday, Jan 17, 2025.
Her baby was delivered 20 minutes later with the assistance and guidance of firefighters on duty at the time. The mother and baby both were transported to Khayelitsha Day Hospital via ambulance.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith shared his happiness and praised the Mfuleni Fire Station firefighters.
Smith expressed that Mfuleni Fire Station is a go-to for many residents who are living in distress. So, it is wonderful to see how the staff excels time and again to save lives and also help in bringing new life into the world.
“I would like to congratulate the firefighters for their swift response,” stated JP Smith. He added further that it is a moment to be proud of and to cherish. He extended his best wishes to the mother and her newborn.
Alderman Smith further said that they are grateful that there were no complications and that everything went well, without any major harm or injury. The midwifery streak of the fire station started in December last year.
Joswin Lameyer and Khuselo Blaai on Dec 01, 2024 were at the station when a pregnant lady arrived and complained of obstetric pains. The two firefighters will immediately jump into action and will summon the paramedics station at the Macassar Fire Station. The firefighters sprang into action by helping the lady to deliver her baby.
During the delivery, the firefighters received telephonic instructions from an ambulance emergency assistant and helped in delivering a healthy baby boy.
Also, on Dec 12, 2024 another pregnant lady arrived at the fire station. And, firefighters Eugene Meyering and Trevor Adams immediately sprang to action to assist. The duo jumped into action and within 45 minutes they helped in delivering a healthy baby girl and cut the umbilical cord.
