Botswana: Minister of Transport and Public Works, Eric Molale highlighted that the government of Botswana government’s commitment to empowering citizen-owned companies. The government is dedicatedly working to enable them advance and manage larger-scale projects effectively.
The officials have shared that the leaders of the nation have remained dedicated to the development of the business sector of thee nation. The Minister made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for Botswana Housing Corporation’s (BHC) 200-housing project.
The officials of the Botswana Housing Corporation were also present at the event. The Minister of Transport and Public Works Eric Molale said 36 houses have been allocated to 18 local companies, each tasked with constructing two houses.
During the launch event for the Botswana housing Corporation project, he clarified that this was a pilot project. He added that if the companies met quality and timeliness standards, they would be considered for additional contracts.
The total cost for the 18 houses being constructed under this project is valued at P25 million. In Category A, eight contractors are each responsible for building 3 or 4 houses, with a total project cost of P21 million.
In Category B, two contractors will construct 18 houses at a cost of P12.8 million. While Category C features three companies awarded P39.9 million to build 13 houses each.
The remaining 77 houses will be distributed among four contractors in Category D. Molale said this category included fewer local contractors, and the goal was to strengthen their capabilities through targeted support.
The minister said construction had already commenced, with preliminary site work completed before today’s ceremony. In addition to the 200 houses, he said BHC had been allocated over 1 000 plots in the area.
These houses are strategically located near a future hospital, to address the anticipated accommodation shortage. The Minister also announced plans to extend similar projects to 13 other areas, including Tutume, Tsabong, and Lerala, where hospitals are planned.
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works and the Botswana Housing Corporation have been supporters of the small and medium sized businsesses owned by the people of Botswana.
