Mauritius: The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Naveena Ramyad attended the Annual General Meeting of L’Association des Manufacturiers Mauriciens (AMM). During the event the minister assured the local manufacturers of the country of the Ministry’s support.
The event was hosted on Thursday at the Les Kocottes, St Pierre. Ramyad claimed she wants to make the local manufacturing industry into a more thriving and dynamic economic sector.
The Minister of Industrial Development Naveena Ramyad delivered a keynote address during the meeting. She talked about the key role played by local small and medium enterprises in the economic landscape.
During her address, she also stated that they also contributed by generating a high number of employment opportunities for the people. The Minister acknowledged during the meeting that it is important to have a dynamic and competitive manufacturing sector.
This would help them in achieving the national goals of paving the way towards a greener and modern Mauritius. The Minister was happy with the dedication and efforts of the L’Association des Manufacturiers Mauriciens.
She appreciated the organization for representing and promoting the interests of the local manufacturing sector. AMM has also played an important role in ensuring its competitiveness and resilience.
“Government intends to partner with the AMM to ensure that the local manufacturing industry achieves resilience to counter issues and challenges, through support and capacity-building initiatives.” she added.
In line with this, Minister Ramyad reiterated her Ministry’s resolve to advance the development agenda of the local manufacturing sector. She highlighted that catering for a conducive environment for thriving business activities would contribute to the progress of the country.
Further, Minister Naveena Ramyad highlighted that the Government was taking various measures to tackle challenges faced by local operators. Some of the initiatives were taken through the provision of reskilling and training programmes.
The government was also dedicated to the employment of skilled foreign workers to address the lack of labour. The administration encouraged local sourcing and local production, to promote consumption of local products.
