Botswana: Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare sent off the athletes of Botswana who are leaving for Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games. They will be representing the country at the Paris Olympics in various athletic events.
The Minister and his team hosted the farewell event at the Oasis Motel in Gaborone with several citizens in attendance.
The team consists of Comprising 14 athletes (12 males and 2 females). The Ministry is sure that the team is ready to compete in the 2024 Olympics Stage.
The Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Tumiso Rakgare delivered a brief address at the event. He bid ‘adieu’ to Team Botswana, acknowledging the formidable challenges the athletes had overcome to qualify for the Olympics.
Further, he took the opportunity to appreciate the team for their dedication to being the best. He highlighted that the government is working hard to developing the sports sector of the nation aligning it with Vision 2036’s objective.
He said that they are working hard to create and maintain a self-sustaining sports industry in Botswana.
Minister Rakgare appreciated the sports leadership of Botswana and the sponsors of the sports sector.
He assured the athletes of the nation’s unwavering support and highlighted that the athletes will be honored for their performances. He highlighted that the government has set down some incentives for their achievements.
He expressed that he was extremely confident in the ability of the team to secure medals for Botswana
The head of delegation, Chef de Mission Oreeditse Marakakgoro also assured the people that the team will make them proud. She promised the Minister and his team that she will lead the athletes well.
Notably, this is a historic event because the Chef de Mission is the first female athlete to lead the delegation from Botswana.
She encouraged the people of Botswana to continue supporting the team as they continue to support the people. The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be broadcast live on Botswana Television.
