South Africa, Redcliffe: An 18 year old male was seriously injured after he was beaten and stabbed by a mob on Hazelmere Road in Redcliffe – KwaZulu Natal (KZN) yesterday afternoon on Wednesday.

A member of the community contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 17:08 in the evening. The caller informed the Controller on Duty that the community beat an individual to death after he attempted to rape a female.

KwaZulu Natal Reaction Unit Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, and on arrival, they discovered an individual with blood soaked clothing on the side of the road. Upon closer examination, he was found to be alive. He regained consciousness shortly after that and initially informed RUSA officers that he was attacked for no reason.

During further questioning, he stated that he was seated on the side of the road when a female walked past him. He became aroused and decided to rape her. He dragged her into a bush and was attempting to rape her when members of the community responded to her plea for assistance.

The crowd entered the bush and began beating him with sticks before they dragged him onto the road and bludgeoned him with boulders. The mob broke beer bottles and stabbed him multiple times before leaving him for dead. A passerby stopped at the scene and confirmed that the man had attempted to rape a Malawian national woman who was returning from her place of employment.
