Zambia: Fifteen members of Monze Swallows Football Club have reported injuries after they were involved in a road traffic accident. The squad was travelling in a Haice Bus when the vehicle crashed into a trailer of a Scania truck.
The accident happened in Kalomo on Wednesday with four of the victims reporting serious injuries due to the accident. Meanwhile, the remaining 11 victims managed to escape the accident with minor injuries.
At the time of the accident, the vehicle was driving over the Kalomo Bridge at around 20:30 hours. The authorities have identified the four individuals who sustained serious injuries.
The first victim, Alex Miyoba, is a 31-year-old resident of Nchete Compound in Monze. The victim sustained backache and general body pains.
The second victim has been identified as Thomas Hadunka. The 33-year-old is a resident of Zambia Compound in Monze who reported a backache, painful hands, and general body pains. The next victim to be identified is 28-year-old Kennedy Mwiinga of Site and Service, who also reported similar injuries.
The final victim is Emmanuel Zulu, 26, also of Site and Service in Monze, who sustained a painful left knee, backache and general body pains.
The four seriously injured passengers are all admitted to Kalomo Urban Clinic. Meanwhile, the eleven who were slightly injured were treated and discharged from the same facility.
The driver of the Scania Truck has been identified as a 56-year-old Zimbabwean national, Artwell Mumba. The vehicle was heading north and the driver of the vehicle escaped without injuries but had the rear bumper to the vehicle depressed.
Meanwhile the team’s vehicle a Toyota Haice Private Minibus was being driven by 29-year-old Abel Mwiinga of Freedom B Compound in Monze. The victim sustained chest pains, headache and general body pains and was admitted to Kalomo urban clinic.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka revealed that the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Haice misjudged the clearance distance and speed of the Truck that was in front of him and, in the process, went to hit the trailer.
