Malawi: Member of Parliament for Neno South, Mark Katsonga has extended his gratitude to the government for supporting his constituency with the relief food. The officials have shared that the donation was made under the Lean Season response programme of the government.
Katsonga extended his gratitude on Monday while he was at Dzundu Primary School ground. This was during the launch of Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) programme.
He said people in his constituency have already received food distribution for the month of October which is a good development. The Parliamentarian has also asked government to increase beneficiaries of the lean season response programme.
The member of the parliament has claimed that more and more people are in dire need of food. He thanked government for various developmental projects taking place in the district and asked for more.
Katsonga said Neno is the only district in Malawi without a tarmac road. He added that the project has been neglected for a long time but thanked government for authorising the construction.
“The only challenge we are facing with the road construction project is that it is going at a snails pace and we ask you to make sure that the road is completed before September 2025,” Katsonga said.
He said two secondary schools and a number of primary schools have been constructed in the district and he expects more schools to be constructed.
He also said that community contribution is a challenge as communities do not have means to transport the materials to the construction site. MP Mark katsonga has asked the president to modify the conditions.
The MP also said a number of health posts have been constructed in most places where communities were walking over 5 kilomters to access medical help but what is lacking is equipments to make them fully operation.
Meanwhile, Traditional Authority Symon of Neno has thanked government for the relief maize distribution under the lean season response programme saying it has bailed his subject from hunger.
He also thanked government for launching the 2024-5 AIP season in Neno saying this shows government commitment in addressing food insecurity.
He therefore, asked government to provide potable water at Zalewa as it does not have potable water and people use water from unsafe sources such as Shire river which is a hazard to their health.
A total of 1,048,445 productive farmers nationwide are benefiting from AIP programme in the 2024-25 season with 1,048,445 benefiting with farming inputs of 50 kgs urea and CAN of which 6,500 farmers are benefiting with livestock (goats).
