Mauritius: Mrs Anpee Goomany, born on 18 October 1922, celebrated her 100th birthday, on Saturday, 22 October 2022, at the Indian Summer Restaurant, in Ebène.
In this context, an official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity to honour the new Centenarian. On this occasion, Mrs Goomany received, from the Authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; another one to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund; a bouquet; a centenarian medal; one certificate; and an oven.
The Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo, the Mayor of the Municipal Town of Vacoas-Phoenix, Mr Praveen Kumar Ramburn, as well as other personalities and the close relatives of Mrs Goomany, were present on this occasion.
Mrs Anpee Goomany, also known as Mooneeah, is now under the care of her grandson, Mr Pravin Hanuman, and has lived in Vacoas since 2000. Her father was a coachman, and her mother was a housewife. Her parents gave birth to three sons and one daughter. All her siblings have passed away, and she lost her parents when she was still young.
The Centenarian got married to Mr Sobnath Goomany at the age of 28 and lived in Chemin Grenier. She gave birth to one daughter. Her husband was the owner of an agricultural land where he cultivated mainly sugarcane. She became a widow at the age of 55 years. At present, she has three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs Goomany still enjoys a healthy life and has no major illness. She makes her household chores as well as moves around by herself. The Centenarian loves eating fish curry and “dholl puri”, and attributes her longevity to her faith in God.
