Zambia: The police force of Lusaka Province has received reports of a 3rd Year Student at Evelyn Hone College taking his own life. The victim was identified as Emmanuel Mvula. The 21-year-old deceased has notably taken his own life inside his mother’s room in Lusaka’s Mtendere Compound.
The officials of the country have started the investigation into the matter and unearth the situation leading up to the unfortunate incident. The incident happened on March 11, 2024 at approximately 13:00 Hours.
The Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale confirmed the incident and shared the details of the incident. He stated that the mother of the deceased discovered her son hanging from the roof pole.
The mother further reached out to the police and reported the suicide. In response, the police force rushed to the scene. They interviewed the family, and the mother revealed that the deceased told her that he wanted to rest in his room. The conversation happened at around 12:00 Hours.
Further, he asked his mother to wake him up around 13:00, as he had class after 14:00.
Police heard that at 13:00 hours, the mother went to wake him up but she did not find him in his room. At this time when she went to her room, she discovered that the door was locked from inside.
Mwale states that when she forced the door open, she discovered her son hanging from one of the roof poles. Further, the Police Officers found a scuff around his neck and tied to the pole.
The police public relations officer says no suicide note was found on the scene, with the remains now deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial. The officials have shared that the victim might be a victim of depression.
Mental health has been one of the major cause of concern for youngsters of the country. Notably, the people are encouraging youngsters to open up and communicate about the problems they face.
