The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has revealed that the first son and commander of the UPDF land forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba went through several friends in order to get access to him.
“Muhoozi went through friends, got my telephone number, sent me a message, and talked. I accepted. He then asked, can I visit you? I said come,” Kagame exposed to celebrate Muhoozi’s 48th birthday during the State dinner.
When he received Muhoozi in Rwanda, the Rwandan President stated that he knew instinctively that the message he was carrying was not his.
Furthermore, he stated, “I was all aware and convinced that even in my strongest belief in Muhoozi, the Uganda President definitely must have been behind the message; I was not under any illusion that he was Muhoozi operating on his own.”
However, relations between Uganda and Rwanda took a turn for the worse in 2019 because Rwanda closed its border at Gatuna/Katuna.
The Rwandan head of state blamed Uganda for having persons who posed security threats to Rwanda. He then blamed Uganda for bullying and arresting Rwandan nationals in Uganda, although the Ugandan government denied these allegations.
Because the Gtauna/katuna border remained closed, many businesses were closed for two years; Commander land forces Muhoozi journeyed to Rwanda to discuss Uganda – Rwanda issues.
The ministry of affairs in Uganda acknowledged that Muhoozi’s role is very big in the negotiations in a bid to see the border reopened early this year.
The Rwandan president said that Uganda and Rwanda are incredibly connected at the birthday dinner. Even when the relations took a hit, he was sure that it was just temporary.
Kagame highlighted, “If bringing Uganda and Rwanda together needed you (Muhoozi) to be in its midst, then thanks be God. We are having difficulties between our countries, but I was always convinced these would be temporary. The ties that bind us are deep.”
