Zambia: Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa has inaugurated an ablution block at Serenje Main Market. The construction of the ablution block has been done at a cost of K1 million using the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
The officials believe that the new development will make the market more accessible and get it par with the standards of the administration. The public ablution block will help promote hygiene and cleanliness in the market are important prerequisites of improvement in standards of living.
The officials have shared that the members of the community are delighted to see the development within the community. The Minister Nkulukusa commended the Serenje Town Council for completion of the facility.
He made these remarks during the commissioning of the ablution block. Thee officials have shared that it is the responsibility of the ministers to make sure the province can flourish.
Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa urged the local authority to put in place adequate security measures to safeguard the ablution block and other public infrastructure from vandalism.
“The water reticulation system that has been installed here is of top quality and l want to commend the Serenje Town Council for the quality works we have seen here. This is how we should use CDF,” he said.
Minister Nkulukusa further urged the local authority to come up with a strategy for the maintenance of all public infrastructure being constructed using the CDF.
“As a local authority, you need to have a plan for the maintenance of public infrastructure like the one we are commissioning today to sustain its lifespan,” Mr Nkulukusa said.
The Minister also called on marketeers and the general public to work with the local authority in keeping the newly-constructed ablution block at Serenje Main Market in good condition.
And Serenje Town Council Chairperson Staivous Mulumba reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure in line with the presidential directive. “This ablution block will help us in preventing the outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera in Serenje district,” Mulumba said.
United Party for National Development (UPND) District Youth Chairperson Emmanuel Kasongo said the UPND will continue delivering on its campaign promises to the people of Serenje.
