Cape Town: The National Arts Council of South Africa has announced the NAC Annual Project Funding Call for applications for the Financial Year 2025-2026. Artscape invites individual arts practitioners and registered arts organizations, and community art centers to apply for funding.
Artscape explains that only one application will be supported or submitted by an individual or an organization or company, be it a natural person or a juristic person. The applications will be accepted until Friday, July 11, 2025 and the outcomes will be announced on Friday, October 17, 2025.
It is an open invitation that began receiving applications on Monday, June 02, 2025 for active art practitioners in the disciplines of craft, dance, literature, music, theatre and musical theatre, visual arts and multi-discipline to submit their applications for project funding.
Applications presenting content in South African indigenous art forms as well as capacity building initiatives in intellectual property that are encouraged to apply.
The National Arts Council (NAC) of South Africa, funds and supports the arts and culture sector according to its set mandate, i.e. –
- Funds Arts Organizations
The NAC provides financial support to individuals, organizations and institutions in the arts and culture sector.
- Promotes Arts Appreciation
The NAC promotes the understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of the arts.
- Fosters National Identity
The NAC uses the arts to promote national identity and consciousness.
- Supports Historically Disadvantaged Groups
The NAC provides additional resources and help to historically disadvantaged groups to increase their access to the arts.
- Promotes International Arts Liaison
The NAC promotes and facilitates national and international arts liaison.
- Preserves South African Heritage
The NAC preserves, protects and promotes South Africa’s artistic, cultural, heritage and linguistic diversity.

NAC visions to bring excellence, equity and empowerment in Art. It’s mission is to strategically lead a sustainable arts sector of mandated arts disciplines to improve socio-economic conditions in South Africa. It values creativity, collaboration, integrity, caring, and excellence.
Furthermore, NAC is mandated to provide and encourage the provision of opportunities for persons to practice the arts. It promotes appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of the arts.
Notably, it also promotes the general application of the arts in the community. It fosters the expression of national identity and consciousness by means of the arts. NAC upholds and promotes the right of any person to freedom in the practice of the arts.
NAC gives historical disadvantages as additional help and resources as required to give them greater access to the arts. It addresses historical imbalances in the provision of infrastructure for the promotion of the arts.
Additionally, it promotes and facilitates national and international liaison between individuals and institutions in respect of the arts. Also, NAC develops and promotes the arts and encourages excellence in regard to these.
