Nakuru County Chief Officer for Cooperatives Kibet Kurgat has lauded Boda Bodas riders drawn from Shabab ward, Nakuru Town West Sub County Today, (Friday), December 8, 2023. During a meeting, the riders were applauded for forming the Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO).
Several delegations, including The County Governor and leader Susan Kihika, and representatives and county members from the Shabab Ward attended the Meeting.
The Meeting was an initiative to build resilience and sustainable incomes for their members. It also aimed to honour and recognize these Boda Boda riders’ contributions and efforts in society.
Notably, the boda boda riders also play an integral role in delivering goods and customers to their communities and public places. They worked to provide safety gear to those who didn’t have any access.
Speaking during a meeting with members and officials of the Shabab Vision Boda Boda Sacco (VBBS), the Chief Officer said the move is an inspiration to other riders across the County to form Saccos.
He added that the County is ready to position the VBBS to play a more significant role in facilitating economic and development agendas to its members as well as the County level at large.
Chief Officer Kurgat further called on the Boda Boda riders to inculcate a culture of savings and investment through different products offered by the Sacco. He also called the leaders to embrace public participation forums to articulate their issues more about the sector.
Nakuru County, under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika, has set to operationalize the Cooperative revolving fund to help Saccos access affordable credit.
Present delegations were Shabab MCA Macharia Wathiai, Jackline Kibui (Ward Administrator, Shabab), representatives from Empolos Hotel management, Discovery BB Sacco, Britam Insurance, and Safaricom.
Meanwhile, through this initiative, the community people have praised the government for taking this initiative. The Deputy President of the Conflict Management and Peace Building Unit, Alumera Kiongozi, was also grateful for the government’s step.
