Botswana: The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture hosted over 28 artists under DJ category for the National Arts Festival (NAF). The aim of the event was to empower the creative sector of the country and encourage them to do well.

The efforts of the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture culminated in a number of  Regional competitions. The events were hosted over the previous weekend in Jwaneng Debswana Diamond Hall.

The members of the community attended the shows to encourage and support their favorite artists from Botswana. The event served as a platform for all the members of the community to showcase their remarkable talents.

The event was attended by a number of artists from all over the country. The Senior Programmes Officer in Jwaneng, Lebogang welcomed the participants of the event.

During the welcome ceremony, she highlighted that this year’s competitions are held under the theme “The creative economy, Botswana’s economic future redefined.” The event was hosted with a set of objectives meant to empower the youth.

She highlighted the prominent aspects of the  annual National Arts Festival (NAF) that is hosted in the country every year

Moilwa explained that the objectives of the competition are to see artists commercialize their art. Further, they also want to work on improving and capacitating the artists to do well for themselves. Moilwa further mentioned that the competitions also help the artists to realize their full potential and their contribution towards the economy and economic diversification.

The village Councillor of Jwaneng, Lebogang Peloyamotho encouraged the artists to be unique and be themselves. At the same time, he also urged them to be creative. Furthermore, he encouraged the artists to respect themselves and be resilient as it will show their determination to their art.

The results of the competition were announced as follows;

  1. DJ Peekay (Pako Boikanyo) Gaborone
  2. Dj Sasky Thabiso Mothupi (Kanye)
  3. Oteng Johane (Tlokweng)

Boikanyo and Mothupi will represent the region at the National competitions to be held in Gaborone.
