Malawi: President Dr Lazarus Chakwera appreciated New Building Society (NBS) Bank for announcing Diamond Sponsorship for this year’s presidential charity golf tournament. The annual event not only brings the rich and influential people of Malawi together, but also helps the vulnerable communities receive the support they deserve.
The bank believes that this reflects the bank’s dedication to corporate social responsibility in the country. The unveiling ceremony of the official sponsor of the gold tournament was hosted on Tuesday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
During the launch, Chakwera said the sponsorship will bring change to vulnerable people affected by Cyclone Freddy and needy students.
“NBS has shown thatMalawi it is not just a financial institution but an institution that helps needy Malawians across the country, as it aims at transforming lives and addressing critical needs,” said the President.
Chakwera, stated that the government is already helping in the two areas but that the situation needs all hands on the ground to succeed.
“This decision by NBS bank offers tangible hope and should inspire others to follow suit,” President Chakwera added.
In her remarks, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for NBS Temwani Simwaka, said the bank remains committed to supporting the government and Malawians as they know that a lot of people are suffering.
She said the decision to sponsor the tournament was an easy one given the shared goals of the bank and the government to improve the lives of Malawians.
“As NBS Bank we are dedicated to the principles of solidarity, generosity, and patriotism, especially in initiatives that uplift vulnerable communities and support education,” said Simwaka.
Simwaka added that NBS Bank has been involved in several charity events, including the Charity Shield at the start of the football season.
Chairperson of the Presidential Charity golf tournament organising committee Gift Kawamba, expressed gratitude to the Bank highlighting that this will help them to achieve their goal for the intended amount they want in the tournament.
He further urged other well wishes to come in and support the tournament as they want to help needy people.
This year’s Presidential Charity Golf Tournament will be held in October at Limbe Country Club, which has been refurbished by NBS Bank.
