Zambia: The Chinsali District administration is constructing the district’s first-ever museum. The district administration claims that the construction project is progressing well.
Muchinga Province Infrastructure Officer Andrew Njelesani talked to the media about the said works. The project is being implemented with an investment of over K3 million.
Njelesani stated that the contractor engaged on the project is currently on site and carrying out the construction of the museum. According to the Infrastructure Officer, the project is now at slab level.
“This project was supposed to end somewhere in April this year, but we received some substantial rainfall late last year which delayed the intended progress,” he said.
Njelesani further mentioned that for the project to be completed early, it is important for the project stakeholders to continue to provide funding. The consistent flow of funds is also important so the project can be handed over within the right period.
The construction of the first-ever museum in the district is being hailed as an important development. The officials have claimed that the new museum will help bring an influx of tourists to the district and provide employment opportunities.
91-year-old Chinsali senior resident Mukuka Chifwamba expressed his delight with the establishment of the district’s first museum. Chifwamba said the museum, which will also be an information centre, is a great milestone for Chinsali.
He stated that the museum will help preserve the district’s rich history. Former Chinsali Mayor Thomas Mutale has expressed his appreciation to the government for constructing the museum in Chinsali district, which was home to the country’s founding father Kenneth Kaunda.
Further, Mutale announced that comprehensive information about the country’s liberators will now be available to the public. The people of the district can learn more about the history of the country.
He also pointed out that the museum will further serve as a reference centre for research purposes for scholars and academicians.
