No cholera in Siavonga District, govt ready for outbreak

Zambia: Siavonga District Health Office has revealed that the district has not recorded any cholera case since the beginning of the outbreak. The health officer also announced that the district has remained alert to the disease outbreak.

Siavonga District Health Director Adja Sumbwe indicated that the district health office has collaborated with the local authority and other stakeholders to spearhead and enhance sensitisation measures to prevent the disease.

The fact that the district has been successfully defending the people in the situation of the outbreak is commendable. The government of Zambia has been appreciating the efforts of the district administration to combat the cholera district.

Dr Sumbwe said various community outreach and awareness campaign teams have so far been instituted in various wards in the district to prevent the outbreak of Cholera.

She added that public premise inspections have been instituted to ensure people adhere to the set preventive guidelines, among others. In the other regions of the country, the administration has already closed down several premesis which did not meet the hygiene standard.

Further, the District Health Director stated that the district is ready to manage any cholera outbreak case. He added that the frontline workers have been oriented and the cholera treatment centre is ready to capture any case.

She however implored residents to continue adhering to the set guidelines from the health office. It will help the administration to counter the spread of the Cholera disease adding that proper hygiene and sanitation are vital at all times.

Meanwhile, Siavonga District Commissioner Geoffrey Jakopo called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders in the district to prevent the outbreak of Cholera.

Jakopo said the district health office has put up preventive measures and has identified centres that will act as cholera treatment facilities.

The District Commissioner stated that it is important for residents to actively exercise high levels of cleanliness and hygiene around their homes and trading places to ensure proper compliance.

He called on the local authority to ensure sanitation levels are followed in all public places as a way to enhance adherence levels.
