The reports of voter registration turnouts in several parts of the country for the upcoming 2025 general elections was disappointing. However, the situation in the Nsanje District was more welcoming and positive as compared to some of these other
District Commissioner for Nsanje, Dominic Mwandira has shared an update on the ongoing 2025 General Elections registration exercise. The initiative was kickstarted for the community on 28 November and has received a very positive and appreciative response in the district.
Mwandira said on Friday that in some centres visited the turn up was good.
“We have almost 165 centres and the exercise is going on very well. We had challenges with two centres in the area of Traditional Authority Nyachikadza because people relocated due to flooding waters,” he added.
The community leaders in the various traditional authorities have also agreed that these centres should not be opened. They have reasoned that the area is water logged and there are no people living around the area.
The opening of the centers will be a waste of energy and resources as community members would not be able to register as voters in this situation.
Therefore, Mwandira advised people in the district to register in order to exercise their right to vote in next year’s general elections.
Nsanje is one of the districts which falls under the last phase of 2025 general elections registrations exercise. The registration for the communities in this district is expected to end on 11 December 2024.
The authorities have confirmed that the numbers so far are encouraging. However, they are also hoping that this number can be retained for the next 12 days as the voter registration campaign continues.
The leaders and officials have been giving their best to make sure that the people of all ages register and do their part in choosing the next government of Malawi in September 2025
