One critical, three others injured after car crash in Canelands – KZN

South Africa: One person sustained critical injuries after a car crashed in the Caneland area of KwaZulu-Natal. The accident took place after the vehicle crashed into a wall on Vincent Dickenson Road.

The crash resulted in one individual sustaining critical injuries while three other victims escaped with moderate damage.

The vehicle was occupied by four male individuals suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.  The investigating team has revealed that they could not confirm the suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) at the site of the incident in Canelands.

Reports suggest that the incident took place on Tuesday morning. Motorcyclists who were passing by the site of the accident contacted the Reaction Unit, asking for emergency assistance for the injured.

According to the reports, RUSA dispatched a team of Reaction Officers and paramedics at the site of the accident. On arrival, RUSA Members extricated a critically injured person from the wreckage of a grey Suzuki Ertiga.

They further assessed the other three individuals and concluded that they sustained mild to moderate injuries. The occupants of the vehicle were suspected of being under the influence of alcohol but this could not be immediately confirmed.

The victims are currently receiving treatment for their wounds at the hospital. The officials suggest that they have started the investigation into the matter.

According to a witness, the vehicle was travelling in the direction of Cottonlands from Verulam – KZN when the driver lost control and collided into a wall above a railway line.

The number of road accidents has been seeing an alarming rise in the previous few months. The people of KwaZulu-Natal have asked the authorities to implement stricter legislations to curb the number of road fatalities in the region.
