Cameroon: The head coach of the National Football Team of Cameroon ‘Fecafoot’ – Rigobert Song Bahanag, released an official list of 27 players, which consists of only one anglophone and the rest of them are francophones.
The team of football players will play the match and defend the colours of the nation in the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) commencing on January 13, 2024.
The list released by Fecafoot consists of four Goal Keepers, nine Defenders, six Midfielders and eight Strikers.
The four goalkeepers are:
- Andre Onana
- Devis Epassy
- Fabrice Ondoa
- Simon Ngapandouetnbu
The nine defenders are:
- Christopher Wooh
- Darlin Yongwa
- Enzo Tchato
- Harold Moukoudi
- Jean Charles Castelletto
- Junior Tchamadeu
- Malcolm Bokele
- Oumar Gonzalez
- Nouhou Tolo
The six midfielders are:
- Benjamin Elliot Njongue
- Franck Zambo Anguissa
- Olivier Kemen
- Olivier Ntcham
- Wilfried Nathan Douala
- Yvan Neyou
The eight strikers are:
- Clinton Njie
- Faris Pemi Moumbagna
- Francois Regis Mughe
- Frank Magri
- Georges Kevin Nkoudou
- Karl Toko Ekambi
- Leonel Christian Ateba M.
- Vincent Aboubakar
Reportedly, the list is dominated by francophones (the French-speaking person) from the Bassa Clan and includes just one Anglophone (the English-speaking person), striker Clinton Njie.
It is happening for the first time since 2010 that there is going to be only one anglophone in the Indomitable Lions Squad at the AFCON match. Recalling the AFCON match of 2017, only four anglophones were in the team and those were Fai, Njie, Bokwe and Ndip.
The Anglophones have been degraded since the current manager of Fecafoot – Samuel Eto’o, visited the office. The English speakers are blaming the representatives like Vice Presidents who work to favour themselves only and not for the good of the English-speaking community, who have produced quality footballers over many years.
The history of Cameroon Football records the greatest contributions by the Anglophone Footballers. Cameroon is a bi-jural country, which the decision-makers must keep in mind while making any judgement.
