Moreover, the 63-year-old faced no opposition after the nomination deadline passed in November 2024. His decision to run again followed the requests from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders.
He said that the goal remains making African football globally competitive. It stabilized the finances and invested in infrastructure. The unopposed re-election reflected both confidence in his leadership and the desire to see him elevate the African football to new heights.
The re-election for another four-year reign was confirmed at the CAF extraordinary general assembly in Cairo where Fifa president Gianni Infantino was in attendance.
Mining magnate – Motsepe also owns South African club Mamelodi Sundowns has said that he was looking to continue the ‘good progress’ he made since coming to office, four years ago.
However, it is considered that the re-election was just a formality, as the elections were held for positions on CAF’s executive committee with Cameroonian Football legend Samuel Eto’o winning a seat. The representatives of the continent Africa on the Fifa council were also voted during Wednesday’s executive general assembly.
